Week 23+

This week in Ireland class we have enjoyed engaging with our Valentine’s Day themed sensory activities. We have made cornflour dough and added rose petals and red food colouring. The boys have also enjoyed mixing red food colouring and salt to make sensory sand.

Ireland class have been practising their reading skills and spending time with an adult to read through a book, using their phonics knowledge to sound words out that are difficult.

The boys have also enjoyed learning all about capacity using language such as full, empty, half full and half empty. As well as talking about different weights of objects, using language such as heavier, lighter and equal.

Week 22+

This week in Ireland class we have been learning our new rhyme of the week ‘1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive’.

Week 21+

This week in Ireland class we have been learning all about Chinese New Year. We have made Chinese lanterns and have been practicing our Chinese symbols. The boys in Ireland class have learnt how to write their names in Chinese.

The boys have also enjoyed watching the dragon and lion dancers that we had visit school this week!

Week 20+

This week in Ireland Class we have enjoyed learning about how to be a kind friend and understanding our emotions. The children in Ireland Class made ‘cups of kindness’ and wrote a note to their friends to put in their cups.

Ireland Class have been busy painting our cardboard castle to put on display in the classroom. The boys enjoyed mixing colours together to get the perfect shade for the castle walls!

Week 19+

This week in Ireland class we have enjoyed reading ‘There’s a dragon in your book’ and building castles with our new magnetic shapes for our dragon figures to live in.

We explored the number 1 for our number of the week and practised our writing and mark making skills.

Ireland class are doing fantastic writing their names each morning when they come into class as part of self-registration.

Week 18+

This week in Ireland class we enjoyed our introduction to our new topic all about Dragons, Knights and Castles.

We explored the number zero and sang a new rhyme of the week noticing when all the dragons were gone.

We developed our creative skills by looking closely at the dragons and drawing their details in our pictures, we also used various block and building materials to make castles.

Week 17+

We welcomed everyone back this week and heard lots of stories about Christmas adventures.

We write thank you notes to Santa for visiting us and he sent a note back saying that we were very kind.

We made new year’s wishes and sang Auld Lang Syne, we have enjoyed getting back to building and making signs during our discovery time and have enjoyed singing our Rhyme of the Week, ‘5 currant Buns.’

Week 15+

We have had a very festive week in Ireland Class with lots of Christmas activities such as making stockings, Christmas trees, we had lots of fun making our own snow, fairy cakes, chocolate crackles, and loved our Enrichment Clubs.

We are so proud of all of our children who participated in this year’s Primary Nativity Play, they all worked so hard and it was so lovely to see how proud of themselves they were.

We would like to wish all of our families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Week 14+

In Ireland class this week we have been so busy preparing for our school Nativity. We have been singing ‘We three Kings’ and practising our lines. We have been making sensory snow during our messy time and describing it’s texture. We have continued reading our traditional tale, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and retelling the story using props and our acting skills.

We are very excited for all of the festive activities next week!

Week 12+

In Ireland class this week we welcomed our new friend to class, everyone was so kind and caring towards Mason and we are so excited to have lots of fun together.

We learned a new rhyme called ‘wind the bobbin up’ and continued with our story of ‘Little red Riding Hood.’ We looked at more celebrations in our topic and wrote a list of items we would need to buy for a party.

We looked at our birthday board and found out who would be celebrating their birthday soon.

Week 11+

In Ireland class this week we have been celebrating ‘World Rhyme Week.’ We looked back over all of our previous rhymes and performed our favourites for the class. We invited a special guest pupil from KS4 to come and share his music with us to sing along to our rhymes, it was amazing.

We have all been developing our communication through fun activities, requesting using our communication boards and some of us engaged in Blanks Level questioning to develop our verbal reasoning and abstract language.

We have also enjoyed being outside mark making and keeping score during our games.

Week 10+

Week 9+

It was a busy week of celebrations in Ireland class this week.

We learnt about Diwali and celebrated this festival through dance and crafts. We also learnt about bonfire night and make some colourful firework pictures, we shared pictures of our families celebrating festivals as well.

We went on a ‘welly walk’ around our lovely grounds and collected beautiful leaves to make Autumn wreaths.

Week 8+

This week in Ireland class we had lots of fun learning about Autumn and seasonal traditions. We read ‘We’re going on a pumpkin hunt’ and went on our own hunt to find pumpkins. We enjoyed mixing colours to paint them, using various sized spoons, ladles and utensils to scoop out the seeds. We made pumpkin soup and potions too. We continued our pattern focus in maths and made patterns with instruments, natural resources and used our ten frames to help us think about quantity. We enjoyed lots of Halloween craft activities and made chocolate apple slices to enjoy at the party.

Week 7+

This week in Ireland class we welcomed our new student to class, we are so excited to see what this year brings for you and are so glad to have you in our class!

We explored patterns in maths and started our new story ‘ A squash and a squeeze.’ We thought of other words we could use to describe something ‘big. Together we thought of, ‘Giant, Gigantic, Massive.’ We sequenced our story by talking about what happens next and last and we developed our scissor cutting skills cutting out the animals and matching them to their spot.

Week 6+

This week in Ireland class we have been exploring signs of Autumn in our sorting activities and using leaves and pine cones to print onto our playdough. We have been performing our rhyme of the Week ‘Humpty Dumpty’ and completed sequencing activities based on this. We read our new story ‘Dear Zoo’ identifying animals by their sound which helped us develop our phase 1 phonics.

Week 5+

This week in Ireland class we celebrated European language day. We dived into French and Italian language, flags, music and food. We had a little tasting buffet and learnt how to say hello in French and Italian. We loved the rain this week as it brought the puddles and we brought the bubbles! We watched how the water travelled along the guttering, and moved from place to place. We have been singing out rhyme of the week, ‘Row Row Row’ and had fun learning the different endings including ‘if you see a dinosaur!’

Week 4+

This week we explored colours and textures in our outside art activities, mixing paint and covering anything we could find in colour!

We have been recognising letters in our names and continuing our matching and sorting activities in maths.

We celebrated National Fitness Day on Wednesday with lots of workouts, physical activities and opportunities to play games with our friends.

We enjoyed our rhyme of the week ‘3 Blind Mice’ and completed different activities to develop our fine motor skills within the theme.

Week 3+

We had lots of fun this week celebrating Roald Dahl day and National Teaching assistants’ day!

We read Roald Dahl stories and made potions and chocolate bars. We learnt all about people who help us and celebrated our fabulous Teaching Assistants, we are still learning their names but doing really well.

We explored texture and colour through creative activities and investigated shapes and numbers during discovery time

Week 2+

Welcome to our first week of our new school year!

Everyone got off to a great start and have made lots of new discoveries already.

In Ireland class we played together building towns, pizza huts and cafes. We drew pictures and painted outside. We used guttering and stands to make ramps and roads for our cars, water and sand.

We are looking forward to see what the rest of the year brings
