In Key Stage 5, students complete 3 Functional Skills qualifications, each of which are accredited by Open Awards.

These qualifications are:
• Functional Skills English (Entry Level 1 to Level 2)
• Functional Skills Maths (Entry Level 1 to Level 2)
• Functional Skills ICT (Entry Level 1 to Level 2)
We also have a clear and strategic focus on supporting each student’s transition from Abbot’s Lea School to their next desired, meaningful destination. To support this, students participate in a range of activities to support their life skill development, their independence and their transition out of Abbot’s Lea School. These activities include Transition development and support, Travel Training development and support, Employability skill development and Therapeutic and Life Skill development and support.

All activities are designed to give our students the confidence and focus to successfully transition out of Abbot’s Lea School into their next meaningful destination.

We have created a task bank of activities under each of these areas of the curriculum. We would suggest that if you are able to engage in work, you should try to cover a range of activities, from a range of areas of the curriculum over the course of a week.

If you have limited time, we suggest you focus on reading and basic maths skills with your child. The link to Timestables Rockstars and Bug Club) will take you to the site needed to access both activities. These are very effective resources. However, it is important that you know which stage of learning your child is at in developing their reading and mathematical ability. This information can be emailed to you by their classroom teacher upon request.
