Week 23+

Portugal have had an amazing final week of this term. We have continued to look at time during Maths and the students have been amazing looking at duration of time which has been tricky and times but they have persevered and have done really well.

In English we wrote our own instructions for something that we really enjoyed. We had instructions for everything from making a sandwich to going swimming.

We had a lovely time on our new adventure playground. The students particularly enjoyed the swing and were fantastic at waiting for their turn.

Week 22+

Portugal class have had a fantastic week this week. We made spaghetti on toast. The students were amazing at using the toaster. They had to be very sensible as it was hot. We have continued to look at time in Maths. The students can now tell the time in 5 minute intervals! During English we have looked at what makes a good set of instructions. The students have looked at different parts of instructions throughout the week and they now know what makes a good set of clear instructions. Well done Portugal class. This has been a brilliant week.

Week 21+

Portugal have had a lovely week this week and have been embracing Chinese New Year.

We have learnt different facts about it and even had a visit from the Chinese Dragons showing us how they dance. In Maths we have been learning how to tell the time. We can now successfully tell the time using o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.

In English we have looked at the story Zog. We looked at what instructions would help him and to show how important clear instructions are, we all followed the same set of instructions to draw a picture, Even though our instructions were the same, our pictures were all different.

Well done on another amazing week Portugal.

Week 20+

In Portugal we have been learning all about time and have shown a great understanding of telling the time at o’clock and half past.

In English, we are discussing fairytales. We have just recently finished our big write of retelling the Cinderella story. Portugal class have worked extremely hard and produced amazing work.

Portugal class have also demonstrated their amazing skills in food technology by following instructions and making delicious cheese and ham toasties.

Week 19+

Portugal have had a lovely week this week. We have continued to look at mass in Maths and the students have really impressed us with their use of the language heavier and lighter. We have also been looking at Cinderella in English. We have learnt that stories change over time and proved this by playing a whispering game. We had a very fun Judo lessons this week. Portugal Class have been fantastic at listening to instructions to stay as safe and sensible. Well done Portugal, have a lovely weekend.

Week 18+

Portugal have had a fantastic first full week. We have been looking at mass in Maths which has given us the opportunity to use the scales and weigh different items around the class room to see which items are heavier and lighter.

We have started looking at Fairy-tales in English and have been learning about what makes a Fairy-tale. During Life Skills we have been discussing communities and what different things we can do to make the communities we are a part of happy and kind.

During Food Technology we made beans on toast. The students were incredibly sensible using the pan to cook their beans and when it was done they all tried some.

Well done on a brilliant week Portugal Class.

Week 17+

A big welcome back and Happy New Year from everyone in Portugal Class! The students have settled back in brilliantly.

We started with a lovely circle time where we all shared what we had done over Christmas. We then made our own Chatta Board to record our sentences.

In Maths we are starting to look at capacity. We used lots of different containers to see which held the most and least, how we could move water around and how capacity is different when water has been turned to ice.

Well-done on an amazing start to term 3 Portugal.

Week 15+

Portugal have had such a fun week this week. We can’t believe that this term is nearly done and how close we are to Christmas.

We have done so many amazing Christmas activities this week and have made some beautiful things to take home to our families.

We have been so busy with some last-minute practices for our Nativity Assembly. We did a full dress rehearsal and the students were incredible.

We have also had our Christmas lunch this week. It was lovely for the students and staff to eat Christmas lunch together, pull crackers and wear Christmas hats.

We have performed our Nativity for KS3, 4 and 5. Our first performance had a couple of technical difficulties but the students didn’t let that stop them with some students taking the microphone to lead the songs.

We hope that Portugal Class and their families have a fun and safe Christmas!

Week 14+

Portugal have had such an amazing and busy week this week! We are really into the spirit of Christmas now! We have been so busy practising our Christmas show. The students have put so much effort into reading their lines and singing their songs. It takes a lot of courage to stand up and speak or sing in front of your friends and Portugal have been absolutely amazing. On Wednesday, we went on our trip to Imagine That. There was so much to do. We had loads of fun in the construction area, building walls and being able to knock them down. We also went into the art area where we got to experiment with paint and could even paint an actual car. Finally, we went into the Science area. There were so many different experiments to do. We could make shadows, use an incredible water table, see how electricity is conducted and also had the opportunity to make magic snow and slime. Well done on this week Portugal Class. Next week is our final full week and we can’t wait for a week of Christmas fun.

Week 13+

Portugal Class have had a lovely week getting into the Christmas spirit.

We have made a cosy fire place for our classroom using our handprints. Next week we are going to make stockings to hang from our fireplace. We have also put up our decorations in class.

The students were so helpful with spreading the branches on the tree and waiting their turn to put decorations on. Our classroom looks very Christmassy now!

We have been enjoying Music this week and have been learning a song called ‘Hey You’. We have learnt how to sing it, how to dance to the beat and how to do it with sign language.

We have also been working hard in French. The students now know how to introduce themselves and how to ask ‘how are you?’

Well done Portugal class, we can’t wait to do more Christmas activities next week.

Week 12+

What a week Portugal Class have had!

We have looked at poetry around the 5 senses in English. The students wrote their own poem and mixed up the senses. There were some very funny sentences.

We have also looked at directions and how to read co-ordinates on a map. We have started looking at the story of the birth of Jesus. The students had a think and drew a picture of what they would give the baby Jesus and also told us why. It was lovely to see how kind and generous Portugal Class are.

On Wednesday we had an amazing day out at LFC Steve Morgan SEN Inclusion Festival. We played kin-ball, football, dodge ball and boccia. We even got to meet Mighty Red.

Portugal Class were amazing and were fantastic advocates for our school!

Week 11+

Portugal have had such an exciting week. We celebrated Road Safety Awareness Week. We pretended to be cars in the class room and went slow and fast to see how quick we could stop. We found out that the quicker you are going the harder it is to stop quickly.

We looked at the Green Cross Code and were able to put the different things we need to do to cross the road safely in order. In P.E we played a robot game. We were in pairs and one person was the control and another was a robot. The controller had to tell the robot what to do. Portugal Class were very sensible and were brilliant at taking turns.

In French we have learnt how to say some basic greetings in French. The students could say the French word and then could match up the French to the English. We had a lovely music lesson and practised using different movements to keep the beat of the music.

The students have been incredibly sensible this week preparing their own snack. We are incredibly impressed with their cutting and spreading skills.

Week 10+

Portugal have had a brilliant week. We played a fun game of The Floor is Lava and were able to use the wall bars to come off the floor. The students really enjoyed being able to do this and were very sensible. We have celebrated World Science Day. We went into each classroom in Key Stage 2 and did a different activity. We made craters in flour with Play Doh meteors, built rockets, made and tried some space food, made a planet and made a space bath bomb. We then went outside and set off our rockets on the school yard. We had so much fun doing our lovely science experiments. Well done on an amazing week Portugal, have a lovely weekend!

Week 9+

Portugal Class have had a brilliant first week of term 2. We shared our news of what we had done from over half term and it sounds like the students have been up to some really exciting things.

The students wrote their half term news like a newspaper article. We have been talking about bonfire night and have paid a lot of attention to what we need to do to stay safe on bonfire night.

We have started looking at orienteering in P.E and were given the task of moving from one side of the hall to the other using a mat and a bench and we couldn’t touch the floor. It was tricky at first but we worked as part of a team and were able to do it. We have also discussed how to turn a negative thought into a positive and how this is important to help us when things aren’t going well.

Well done Portugal Class. Stay safe if you are going to see any fireworks.

Week 8+

Portugal class have had a lovely week full of Halloween activities.

We have designed our own pumpkins designs and were able to have a go at carving them out. The students loved scooping out the inside of the pumpkin and were using their hands as well as the spoon.

In Maths we have been focusing on fractions and made pumpkin pies out of play doh to cut into halves and quarters. The students really impressed us with how well they could cut their ‘pies’. We also made some lovely Halloween treats. We dipped apples into chocolate and then put sprinkles on and also did the same with melted marshmallow and bananas.

We have been busy making decorations for our Halloween party and have made some lovely Halloween characters out of paper plates. Well done on an amazing term Portugal class.

Week 7+

Wow Portugal, where has this week gone?

We have done so much this week. In Maths we have moved on to learning about fractions. We have been practising making halves using cubes, interactive games and decorating butterflies. In food technology we made an apple and blackberry crumble. Portugal class loved getting involved with the mixing and spooning the ingredients into the dish. Once it was cooked, we all had some and it was delicious!

This term we have been practising our throwing and catching skills and these were put to the test in P.E when we had a fun game of bench ball. As part of our project work, we have been learning about the primary colours. We have been mixing these colours to see how other colours are made and making amazing patterns out of them.

You’ve been fantastic Portugal Class, keep it up!

Week 6+

Portugal class have had the loveliest week this week.

At the beginning of the week, we started to look at poetry about the seaside using our 5 senses. We spoke about the different things you would experience at the seaside and what senses we would use to experience them.

We searched our sandbox looking for different words from the beach to help us. We have started to plan our poems and they are absolutely fantastic; we cannot wait to display them in our classroom.

We designed our own fruit salad this week and then were able to make them. The students were fantastic at trying different fruits that they may not have tried before.

During our project work we have been looking at toys from the 1950s and comparing them to toys that we have today. The students were brilliant at being able to identify the differences between the different types of toys.

Week 5+

Portugal Class have had an absolutely fantastic week. We started the week celebrating European Language Day. Each class in Key Stage 2 set up different activities in their classroom for the students to enjoy. We went into each class and were able to try different foods from each country, learn different words and made some lovely arts and crafts. We have been continuing with throwing and catching in P.E and this week we were able to use equipment to practise our throwing and catching skills. We have started a new story in English called ‘Oscar Got the Blame.’ The students have really enjoyed this story and have designed their own imaginary friend based on it. In food technology we made a delicious apple pie which was perfect for the miserable weather. Have a lovely weekend Portugal. You have worked so hard this week.

Week 4+

Portugal have had an amazing week this week.

On Monday we made fruit kebabs in food technology which was a lovely treat. We have celebrated National Fitness Day by hosting a Mini Olympics with the rest of our friends in Key Stage 2. Portugal class loved the activities and were fantastic moving around from one activity to the next. We have also celebrated Recycling Day by learning about what items go into which bins and what happens when they are taken away by the bin lorry. We also had an interactive session with the recycling centre. In Life Skills we have continued to look at living a healthy lifestyle including getting enough exercise and enough sleep. In Phonics we have had lots of fun learning our sounds by playing phonics bingo.

Week 3+

This week has been amazing for Portugal class. On Monday we celebrated Roald Dahl day. We watched the BFG and discussed how different dreams can make us feel. We then made dream jars to display in our classroom. We have been looking at place value in Maths and the students really impressed us with how we they could place numbers into tens and ones. We had a lovely visit to the library and the students chose a book to bring back to class for free reading. We celebrated National Teaching Assistants day. We made them a lovely card and cakes. Portugal class were so sensible when getting their photograph taken and they all looked very smart! Have a lovely weekend Portugal class, you are doing amazing!

 

Week 2+

Portugal have had an amazing first week back. We started the week by sharing what we’d done over the summer break. It sounds like everyone had a very fun summer break! The students wrote what they had done and drew a picture. We couldn’t believe how brilliant the students handwriting is. We have been using sensory circuits to help remain regulated, the students have really enjoyed this. In food technology we made delicious banana smoothies. Some of the students were a bit unsure about trying them but they did which was amazing! On Wednesday, it was a very warm day, so we had a lovely treat and had a lolly ice to cool down at the end of the day. Well done on an amazing week Portugal class. We know this is going to be an amazing year
