Working with Employers
At Abbot’s Lea School, we fully welcome employers, higher education institutions, apprenticeship providers, and local colleges to help inform our students about the wide range of career routes and opportunities available to them. This collaboration is vital in widening our students’ understanding of the world of work and helping them make informed choices about their futures.
We actively encourage all students—from EYFS (age 3) through to Key Stage 5 (ages 16–19)—to engage with employers and participate in appropriate forms of work experience.
Ways We Engage with Employers
- Talks and presentations in school
- Visits to employer sites
- Participation in Careers Week
- Careers fairs
- Primary Careers Day
- Class-based or individual work experience
- Job shadowing opportunities

Supported Internships
One of the most impactful ways we work with employers is through our Supported Internship Programme, which places older students with an employer for four days per week across the academic year. This programme is designed to provide real-world experience, develop employability skills, and support students into paid employment.
We are proud to work with a growing network of inclusive employers who share our commitment to neurodiversity and meaningful employment. Some of our current partners include:
- Speke Hall (National Trust)
- Strawberry Fields (The Salvation Army)
- Greenbank Sports Centre
- Keepmoat Homes
- Teamsport Indoor Karting
These organisations have hosted interns, provided work experience placements, and supported our careers events. Their involvement has been instrumental in helping our students gain confidence, skills, and insight into the workplace.
