The project includes:

  • Review of research on remote education

  • Creating a toolkit of practical strategies and activities for SEND remote education
  • Piloting those strategies and activities among special schools in Liverpool
  • Reporting and supporting mainstream school in offering appropriate remote education for SEND students

With respect to each student’s individual needs and interests, this toolkit and its suggestions should be used as a collection of ideas for teachers to choose from and adapt for their class. The presented list of practical suggestions will be continuously revised and updated with new ideas. It is advised to frequently check the Abbot’s Lea School website for the newest version of this document, rather than downloading and sharing what might be older versions of the document

02 February 2021 Online Presentation – SEND Remote Education

Mrs Ania Hildrey, our Headteacher, is leading an international project focused on developing an SEND Toolkit based on most effective practice in remote education. In February, she addressed the Headteachers of 12 special schools in Liverpool sharing her research to-date and inviting others to join the next phase of her NPQEL project (National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership).

The recording of her presentation is available below:

The related slides are here:

SEND Remote Education for schools

As a result of the above presentation, and the effective stakeholder engagement from Mrs. Hildrey [insert exact time of the presentation here], as well as the offer of support [insert exact time of the presentation here] all 12 special schools in Liverpool City Council, decided to take part in the project, piloting a range of remote learning activities.

03 March 2021 Online Webinar – SEND Remote Education
As part of the above project, we have worked with our partners in HIgher Education.

Mrs Hildrey delegated to Ms Mursic a joint delivery of a workshop aimed at teachers and leaders in special schools.

Ms Mursic was joined by Sarah Wright, Senior Lecturer in Education at Edge Hill University in launching our support programme for remote education provision during which, in little over an hour, main themes from our international survey were covered together with a demonstration of several available online tools.

There were some technical issues to solve during the session, so this recording serves an additional purpose of modelling that problem-solving! For the easier navigation, the list below includes hyperlinks to specific parts of the session.
