Flexible Provision offers a personalised and responsive curriculum that enables students to develop the skills, confidence and resilience needed to engage successfully in learning and prepare for adulthood. Learning is carefully planned around individual strengths, interests and aspirations, ensuring that experiences are meaningful, motivating and relevant.
The curriculum combines practical learning, personal development, community engagement and therapeutic support to help students build independence, self-awareness and positive relationships. Students access a range of opportunities including Outdoor Adventurous Activities, Food Technology, Preparation for Adulthood, employability experiences, community-based learning and personalised interventions tailored to individual need.
A key feature of Flexible Provision is the RESPECT Curriculum, based on the Commando Joe’s mentoring programme. Through a shared framework of Resilience, Empathy, Self-Awareness, Passion, Excellence, Communication and Teamwork, students develop the character, confidence and personal qualities needed for success both within school and beyond.
Alongside this, students may access bespoke interventions informed by Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs), helping them to develop strategies for communication, emotional regulation, engagement and positive participation in school life.
Flexible Provision also provides opportunities for personalised learning experiences, which may include community access, travel training, work-related learning, enterprise activities, volunteering, outdoor education and interest-led projects. These experiences help students apply their learning in real-life contexts whilst developing independence and preparing for their next destination.
At Abbot’s Lea School, Flexible Provision is designed to ensure that every student experiences success, develops a strong sense of belonging and is equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in adulthood.
