At Abbot’s Lea School, enrichment clubs are an important part of our Personal Development Offer, providing students with opportunities to explore interests, develop new skills and build positive relationships beyond their usual classroom environment.
Students have the opportunity to change their club each term and are encouraged to experience each of the clubs available to them. This gives students the opportunity to discover new interests, work alongside different students and adults, develop confidence in unfamiliar activities and build a broader range of skills.
The clubs offered vary according to key stage and student need, but include Social Communication Club, Sports Club, Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA), Cooking Club, Construction Club, Girls Club and Arts and Crafts.
Our enrichment clubs provide opportunities for students to learn, practise and generalise skills in different contexts. Importantly, the purpose of the clubs extends beyond the individual activity itself. Students are developing the personal skills they need to participate successfully in school, relationships, the community and, ultimately, adult life.
Through the enrichment programme, students have opportunities to develop communication, confidence, independence, resilience, teamwork, emotional regulation, problem-solving, healthy lifestyles, creativity and a sense of belonging.
The termly rotation also encourages students to try something new, make choices about their interests and build a wider range of experiences. By encouraging students to access each available club, we aim to ensure that enrichment is an opportunity for exploration rather than simply participation in a preferred activity. This supports our wider ambition for students to become confident, engaged and increasingly independent members of their communities.
