As you may be aware, Abbot’s Lea School is part of Operation Encompass. This is a vital initiative designed to support children and families affected by Domestic Abuse. This collaboration between Education and Safeguarding Services aims to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students by providing immediate support and intervention when needed.
Operation Encompass works by enabling information sharing between the police and schools. If a child has been present, witnessed, or been involved in a domestic abuse incident, the police will notify the school’s designated safeguarding lead before the start of the next school day. This allows us to put in place appropriate support measures for the child, ensuring they receive the care and understanding they need during what can be a challenging time
By being part of Operation Encompass, our school is taking a proactive approach to safeguarding and supporting our students.
Here is how the initiative will benefit our school community:
- Immediate Support – With timely information from the police, we can offer support to children who may be feeling upset, confused, or frightened following a domestic abuse incident. Our trained staff will be ready to provide reassurance and comfort, ensuring that affected students feel safe and supported at school.
- Tailored Interventions – Every child’s situation is unique, and Operation Encompass allows us to tailor our support to meet individual needs. Whether it’s through one- on-one counselling, group sessions, or extra pastoral care, we will work closely with families to provide the right interventions for each child.
- Improved Communication – Operation Encompass enhances communication between the police, school staff, and families. This collaborative approach ensures that everyone involved is aware of the support being provided and can work together to ensure the well-being of the child.
- Building Trust – By demonstrating our commitment to supporting students through Operation Encompass, we are fostering trust and confidence within our school community. Families can feel reassured knowing that we are actively engaged in safeguarding their children and providing a safe and nurturing environment for learning.
